xtremespeeds.net BitTorrent site taken offline
A major BitTorrent website providing thousands of television shows and movies without permission amongst tens of thousands of users has been closed today.
OVH, the French internet services company, has pulled the plug on xtremespeeds.net’s servers. The website had ballooned in size during its 12 month run, proving a popular site amongst torrent users to download a very wide range of new television shows. Most shows appeared online within 15 minutes of airing on the East Coast of American.
OVH did not return immediate comment around the reasoning behind the closure.
In recent weeks France effectively aligned itself with the entertainment industry by passing laws to stop online distribution of copyrighted material without permission.

as a frequent user of XtremeSpeeds im heartbroken to see it go, and I stand firm in the belief that any show that has aired on free-to-air TV is now and will forever be in the public domain, it is not about entertainment companies making profit..its about them making shure they keep their profit margins above 600 percent…shame on OVH for becoming yet another company to bow down to american interests.
Hopefully they are able to salvage the server setup and migrate it to a server in a country progressive enough to understand the importance of “public domain media”.
And if they are going to charge $100 for a pc game that has had as little thought put into it as the presidency of G W Bush, or continue to churn out reality TV to maximise profits, or continue pumping out media on non-biodegradable DVD’s when digital distribution is available but being used at less than 1% market share, and prices for media remain as high as they are…then im sorry, but “piracy” then becomes a tool that should be used to force the entertainment industry to modify their production and sales methods.

how do i update my dns i a m running vista
open command prompt, (make sure you run as administrator, Right click command prompt if youre not and click run as administrator)then type in the black box: ipconfig /flushdns
hope that helps, ive done it and so far extremespeeds hasnt come back but im sure it will in time

So, according to everyone, XS is back, but for some reason my browser still can’t connect to it’s server. I’m not sure what’s wrong, does anyone have any suggestions? I usually use safari, but I even tried ie (just in case haha) and no luck. Maybe an ip issue? Thanks!
