There are some pieces of advice that just make sense. Don’t eat yellow snow. Look both ways before you cross. Don’t anger fans of Misha Collins. However just as we see every day that some people still don’t look both ways and still get crushed by tankers, sometime people still think it’s a good idea to hate on Misha.
Collins’ character Castiel was immediately popular when he arrived on Supernatural. He and Dean (‘Destiel’) recently beat Glee’s Blaine and Kurt as TV’s Most Romantic Couple in a TV Guide poll, despite the fact that Dean is a confirmed hetero and Cas is kind of…asexual. (Although when he kisses demons, they tend to be girl shaped.)
The buzz around Castiel, Destiel and the Cult of Misha Collins has managed to put a few people out. Thursday May 31st was supposed to be ‘I Hate Misha Collins Day’, as suggested by a bundle of anonymous comments left on the tumblr pages of potential anit-Misha allies. Unfortunately for the IHMCD campaign, people on tumblr started to notice these anon comments and do the exact opposite, formulating We Love Misha Collins Day which consisted of a massive amount of picspams and personal stories of Misha love, and culminated, as all good coups do, in a trend on Twitter.

There is certainly a section of fandom which wants Supernatural to go back to just being about the relationship between Sam and Dean (and not necessarily as far as Wincest, just old fashioned sibling love and rivalry), and this ‘Silent Majority’ as they name themselves have organised and started a letter writing campaign in the wake of showrunner Sera Gamble’s departure. They claim to have nothing to do with I Hate Misha Collins Day and they certainly seem to have very little motive for wanting to bring the wrath of the fandom upon their little heads.
So it seems that IHMCD was just the insane ramblings of a few marginalised malcontents. Whatever the motive, they galvanised SPN fandom against them, especially after the Overlord Himself called them out over twitter, saying that some “jerks” were trying to get him fired, and was backed up co-stars Jim Beaver and Sebastian Roche. Maybe next time they want a little attention, a softer target may be in order?
My vote goes to Mr Fizzles. I hate that puppet.
