Fox unveils Fall schedule – Terminator cancelled officially

Submitted by Kevin.Beaumont on May 18, 2009 – 3:01 pmView Comments

End of Show presents the fall schedule on FOX, setting to rest rumours about “Dollhouse”, “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” and “Bones”.

cleveland

The headlines: Terminator is neither a fall or midseason show, so it’s cancelled officially, as we reported yesterday.  FOX president Kevin Reilly says: ““We make no apologies. We gave it a lot of support and some consistent scheduling. We tried.”

“Dollhouse” is gaining comedy lead ins for its second season.  “Fringe” is moving nights.  “Til Death” returns.  And “Human Traffic” goes MIA for now.

Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly says “The strategic moves we made last year to build off of our biggest assets are paying off. We’ve created stability and consistently strong performance across the week. Next season, we’re bringing back two top-rated sophomore dramas and using our hits to introduce a broad and compelling slate of new shows that will make our air even more vibrant and alive.”

i dont understand why out of all the science fiction shows on fox they would choose the two worst to stay on. yes joss is a great creator, but that doesnt mean the dollhouse garbage that is being pumped out right now is going to continue having good ratings. i am a loyal fan of whedon and i gave dollhouse 10 episodes to be worth watching, thats right i have 2 episodes left of the season and i will not watch because it is garbage.
terminator on the other hand i can agree had its ups and downs every once in a while but is making jon connor a character that we actually care about and the last 4 episodes of the season were incredible even though they were only slightly more intense than the rest of the series.
i have been trying to deal with this for the past week, and i dont understand why they would pick up and leave a great story like terminator, you dont think there are terminator fans what about the $67,200,000 domestic that terminator salvation just made in the last couple of days. if anything more people would have been looking to watch the amazing show after a big time movie release.
who ever is running fox is crazy. give them one or two seasons to wrap up, do the right thing.
  • Ryan
Why would Josh Friedman not want to shop it around. This has happened before where another network picks up a show.

    Keeping Dollhouse is a joke.

Don't be fooled with the cost issue on TSCC, that ia poor excuse and is not valid.

Someone should step up to the plate here wether it be Fox or some other Network.

    Keep it alive !!!!
  • saluk
It's pretty surprising that dollhouse was kept and terminator was axed. At least they kept one of them. Too bad it it is in the SAME lame timeslot, and without the terminator lead-in I doubt it will last much longer.

They never should have moved Terminator to Fridays. Idiots.
  • @Laura

I don't hate TSCC and stupid to think FOX hated it. They paid for it LOL.

If Fridays are so bad can you explain X-Files and to further demonstrate the low interest in TSCC, Thomas Dekker's thank you video, with a Front Page spot on the Terminator Wiki page has only gotten 32,000 views in a week, which is pathetically low.

TSCC has a dedicated, loyal, smart and well organized fan base. It is also a small one and yes, 3.6 Million in broadcast viewership is very small.
  • Tif
Thank you for your logic..its sad..but it happens
  • Laura
Lanie Grace hates Terminator as much as Fox apparently. Just because people have known it was getting cancelled for months doesn't mean they can't vent about it here. Isn't that the point of commentary, to express your opinions, in this case about disappointments like Fox's programming choices?

And no, putting Terminator on Fridays is not giving it a chance, Kevin Reilly.
  • Josh Friedman has pretty much confirmed that TSCC is dead in all respects. It isn't going anywhere else and he clearly stated that if FOX didn't do it, it wasn't happening in any form.

WB has also confirmed that they are not shopping it around anywhere else.

    Shows over.
  • The Truth
FOX is showing signs of poor leadership. First, they failed to correct the mistake of moving to show to Friday. Then they failed to take the large advertising budget and put some of that into special effects, then they failed to recognize that Terminator will be a staple performer for the future. Or perhaps they just realize that they don't know how to market the show, which is maybe even worse for the network. It may cost a little more, but if you start putting out shows based strictly on cost, people will soon notice the quality decline and flee from FOX programming. If it weren't for House, I would already be gone, and that show is even more inconsistent than Terminator was. The good news is that another network is going to take a big chunk of the market from FOX as a result of the poor decision, and FOX will see its very own Brett Favre revenge drama unfold. Whoever ends up with the show should put it up against FOX's Monday lineup and then watch the dominoes fall.
  • I don't know why this is such a shock to people!

This had been a foregone conclusion for months and has been reported by several major websites even longer.

The reason it is is "Official" now is because WB/FOX had a big budget movie to protect. People shouldn't take this personally, it was sound business.
  • Alluette
Those creeps at Fox always cancelling good shows... Terminator was brilliant and really getting round to some seriously interesting stuff... hope some other channel picks it up. The guy says they gave it a chance? You call putting it on Friday nights a chance? Who watches TV on fridays FFS!
  • kim
    BOO TO FOX!
Cancelling Terminator after putting it on fridays. I had to dvr it all the time, and yes ,I never missed an episode, but that did not count. What crap that is...
And to keep a lame ass story like dollhouse? That show sucks.
I hope kcwi or abc picks it up, I would switch channels in a heartbeat. Fox is getting bad...American idol is he only show left and I am getting bored with that one too.
Why not put Terminator on mon or tues...night where there isn't s**t for tv.
And we all voted on what show to keep, Terminator won. What a waste of time that was...
I could run the network programming better then these yahoos...
    As I said...BOO TO FOX...
  • Jackson
    BOOOOO!!!

I can't believe Terminator was cancelled. What an awesome show.

I just knew it would get canned -- simply because it heavily conflicts with the storyline of the movie --- and would only serve to confuse future Terminator movies.
  • Mpower
If the show conflicts with the movies it should be pulled, that really makes me mad if it does.

I cant wait for the movie! I never go to the theater for any movie (I'm blessed to have a great set up at home), but I don't think I can wait for this one to come out on Blu, so to the theater I go! I haven't done that for years.
  • Godfail
Terminator did not conflict with the storyline of any of the movies...in fact, this next movie pretends T3 never even happened.

The show was cancelled because of low ratings - and blame that on Fox putting shows on Friday night...and for not being able to see a quality program from one that has high ratings. Absolutely ridiculous...
  • jkalderash
Does that mean they gave it a 22-episode order, or they're just going to stagger the 13, or they're going to air the first season, or .... ?

Trying not to get too excited over here.
  • Kevin.Beaumont
13 episode order, they want to see how it goes before ordering the back 9 (which is a contractual option). But it will still be on the air mid-season (Januaryish) is what they're saying.
  • jkalderash
Ah, OK. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions.

Not thrilled about having Til Death as a lead-in. I'm guessing it will make Prison Break look awesome.
  • Kevin.Beaumont
Yes, 'Dollhouse' will struggle with that as a lead in.
  • Kevin.Beaumont
Yes. Means they plan to keep it on board all season.
  • jkalderash
Wait... Dollhouse is listed for *both* the fall and spring?
