Torchwood returns in July

Submitted by Kevin.Beaumont on May 12, 2009 – 8:12 pmView Comments

BBC America have confirmed to End Of Show that Torchwood will hit screens in July, in both the US and UK.  In the UK the show will move to BBC One.  The show is in 5 segments, with one airing each night of the week.

Writer Russell T Davies says “this series is one big serial and the most ambitious story we’ve ever made, and we’ve got plenty of surprises in store.”

The returning cast includes John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper and Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones.  Other regular cast involved in their high-octane adventure are Kai Owen as Rhys Williams, Gwen’s husband, and Tom Price as PC Andy.

Special guests in the five part series are Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who, The Thick Of It, Skins), who plays the role of Mr. Frobisher – a civil servant who is hiding a terrible secret, Paul Copely (Coronation Street, The Bill) as Clem – the survivor still haunted by his past, and Liz May Brice (Bad Girls, The Bill) as Johnson – the cynical covert government agent determined to expose Torchwood.

I am very disappointed that Capt John Hart will not be around this year, and what is with just 5 eps. I love this series, but 5 eps?? What are they thinking?
  • Shannen
Actually I'm quite looking forward to this new format. It will be really interesting like this. Of course I want a full fourth series after though.

Not happy about the lack of news on Torchwood.

What channel will it be on in the U.S.? I never seem to be able to find out anything about Dr. Who/Torchwood airing in the U.S.

    Would appreciate any help..

Torchwood will be shown on BBC America in the U.S.

Neither the BBCA or BBC websites seem to have a confirmed air date anywhere yet so I'm curious as to who/how/where they've confirmed it to - especially when John Barrowman IS confirmed as attending the preview showing on June 12th at the National Film Theatre...
  • Catherine B
The ten-second trailer for Series 3 being shown on BBC America says "Coming this July" at the end.

Thank goodness!! I live in the U.S. and have been anxiously awaiting the return of Torchwood!!!!!

For us in the UK, it's pretty much been confirmed that it will air on the week beginning Monday 15th June.
  • Anonymouse
No, it's not been. BBC never gave an official air date until now. All the 2nd week of June stuff came from Gareth who admitted he didn't know exactly when it would be but he thought it would be the 2nd week of June.
