Heroes’ Greg Beeman Fired by NBC
The latest casualty of Heroes’ dramatic slump is long time director Greg Beeman, who also blogs weekly about goings on behind the scenes. His special relationship with fans of the show has seen angry reaction on his blog and across the web. NBC are thought to have axed him a cost cutting exercise to thin down the number of producers on the show, which has seen its lowest ever ratings this season.
He posted the following on his blog “Beaming Beeman” :
Beeman worked on Smallville and Nash Bridges before coming to Heroes and directing his first episode “One Giant Leap”, the third episode of Season 1. A graphic novel artist, his episodes are characterised by strong colour and contrast and a talent for the ‘dramatic frame’ which has led to some of the most iconic images in the show. He directed last night’s Season 3 finale “An Invisible Thread”.
In his role as producer he also took responsibility for the guest directors on the show. He wrote the recent graphic novel ‘Puppet with No Strings’.
Earlier in the season producers Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander were also fired, leaving room for former producer Bryan Fuller to return from his cancelled show Pushing Daisies. NBC have confirmed that Heroes will have a Season 4.
Top Three Greg Beeman Episodes
“One Giant Leap” Season 1 : Episode 3
Possibly the most comic-like of all his episodes, Beeman uses strong reds and blues and high contrast to illustrate Claire’s first time back from the dead, and Peter Petrelli’s battles with his power and his love life.

“Landslide” Season 1 : Episode 22
Beeman’s use of light in this episode is particularly impressive. The bustle of the senatorial election and the night sequences showing Sylar hunting radioactive Ted Sprague are an effective contrast.

“Homecoming” Season 1 : Episode 9
A busy market in Chennai and a High School homecoming show off Beeman’s eye for scene setting and perfectly showcase his talent for bringing Isaac Mendez’s paintings to life.
