True Blood returning for second series

Despite relatively poor opening ratings and only having aired two episodes, HBO have ordered a second series of Vamp drama “True Blood”.  This shouldn’t be a huge surprise to anybody – creator Alan Ball worked on the hugely successful “Six Feet Under”, and genre shows don’t always find an immediate audience (example: the first low rated series of Buffy The Vampire Slayer for The WB).

Production starts again next year.

“We are absolutely thrilled that the critics and our viewers have embraced True Blood,” said HBO’s Michael Lombardo.  “Alan Ball has done it again – made an addictive series that is unlike any other.”

End Of Show laughs at the spin on display, as the reviews haven’t been brilliant, nor have the ratings.  The show also reuses well established literary and TV formula.  That said, I believe the show is well executed and deserves the place it has on the air.

Alan says: “It really is a joy to go to work every day and I couldn’t be happier to be back home at HBO.”
